Roof Truss Repair and Strengthening in Malaysia

Roof truss repair in Malaysia is quoted after inspection, because every job needs a structural check of the timber or steel members. Our technician inspects for free, checks for termite damage, rot, sagging and overloading, then recommends strengthening, partial replacement or a lightweight steel truss. Re-roofing works are priced separately per sq ft.

Roof Truss Repair and Strengthening in Malaysia

Many Malaysian terraces and semi-Ds built in the 1990s and 2000s sit on timber roof trusses. After decades of heat, humidity and the occasional leak, timber can rot at the joints, and termites can hollow out members without any sign from below. Heavy concrete tiles add constant load. The first visible warning is often a sagging roof line, cracks in the ceiling or tiles that keep slipping.

Our CIDB-registered installation partner inspects, strengthens and replaces roof trusses across the Klang Valley, Johor, Penang, Perak, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Kuantan, usually together with re-roofing. Book a free inspection so a technician can check the roof space and tell you how serious the damage is.

Signs of roof truss problems

Truss problems develop slowly, so look out for small changes over time.

  • A visible dip or wave along the roof ridge or eaves
  • New cracks in the ceiling or cornice, especially along the top floor
  • Termite mud tunnels, hollow-sounding timber or frass in the roof space
  • Dark, soft or crumbling timber where old leaks have soaked the truss
  • Tiles repeatedly slipping or the roof leaking after nothing else has changed

How we repair and strengthen a roof truss

Truss work affects the structure of your home, so it starts with a careful assessment rather than a price per square foot.

  • Inspect the roof space: truss members, joints, battens, wall plates and signs of termites or rot
  • Structural check: confirm whether members can be strengthened or must be replaced
  • Arrange termite treatment first where active termites are found
  • Strengthen: sister new members alongside damaged ones, add bracing and replace failed connectors
  • Replace: swap badly damaged sections, or the whole truss, with new timber or lightweight steel
  • Re-roof: refix or replace the roof covering over the repaired truss

Timber vs lightweight steel roof truss

Lightweight steel roof trusses are now widely used in Malaysia. They do not rot and are not eaten by termites, and they are engineered for the roof design. Timber is still common in older homes and can be strengthened if the damage is limited.

Pairing a repaired truss with a lighter roof covering, such as a PU foam metal deck or stone-coated tiles, reduces the load on the structure. See roof replacement for those options.

  • Timber truss strengthening: suitable where damage is localised
  • Partial replacement: damaged trusses replaced, sound ones retained
  • Lightweight steel truss: termite-proof and engineered for the roof
  • Roof covering: lighter metal systems reduce truss load

Roof truss repair cost in Malaysia

Truss strengthening or replacement is quoted after inspection, because the cost depends entirely on the extent of damage, the roof design and whether the roof covering has to come off. When a re-roof is part of the job, the roof covering is priced per square foot from the table below, with the truss work listed separately in the quotation.

Our process: inspection, structural check, quote, works

  • Book online with your address and photos of any sagging, cracks or termite signs
  • We confirm a free inspection with the nearest branch team, usually within 1 to 3 working days
  • Our technician inspects the roof space and explains the findings with photos
  • A quotation is issued once the structural check confirms the scope
  • You confirm and pay a deposit; balance on completion

When to act on truss damage

Do not delay if you see sagging, fresh ceiling cracks or termite activity. Damaged trusses can deteriorate quickly once a roof starts leaking onto them, and a collapse risk is not worth taking. Fixing leaks early, keeping gutters clear and having termite checks every few years are the best protection for a timber roof.

Frequently asked questions

How much does roof truss repair cost in Malaysia?

Roof truss repair, strengthening or replacement is quoted after inspection, because the price depends on how many members are damaged, the roof design and whether the roof covering must be removed. Our technician checks the truss for free and issues a written quotation once the structural check confirms the scope of work.

How do I know if my roof truss is damaged?

Warning signs include a sagging ridge or eaves line, new cracks in the top-floor ceiling, slipping tiles, termite mud tunnels and soft or darkened timber in the roof space. Many problems are only visible from inside the roof space, so a technician inspection is the reliable way to confirm the condition.

Is a lightweight steel roof truss better than timber?

Lightweight steel trusses do not rot and are not attacked by termites, and they are engineered for the specific roof. Timber trusses are common in older Malaysian homes and can perform well when dry and termite-free. If damage is widespread, replacing with steel is often the long-term choice.

Can termite-damaged roof trusses be repaired?

Often, yes. Active termites must be treated first. Members with limited damage can be strengthened by fixing new timber alongside them and adding bracing. Heavily hollowed members, or trusses with damage across many joints, should be replaced. Our technician explains which applies after the inspection.

Do I need to remove the roof to repair the truss?

Not always. Some strengthening can be done from inside the roof space with the tiles in place. Replacing whole trusses usually requires removing the roof covering over that area. If the tiles are old anyway, many owners re-roof at the same time to save on labour.

How long does roof truss repair take?

Localised strengthening can take one to a few days. Replacing several trusses with a re-roof on a terrace house usually takes one to two weeks, depending on roof size and weather. The timeline is confirmed in the quotation after the structural check.

Can I strengthen my roof truss myself?

We strongly advise against it. Truss work is structural, and a wrong cut or connection can weaken the roof further. Roof spaces in Malaysia are also hot, cramped and often wired. A qualified site team with a proper structural assessment is the safe option.

Does a sagging roof mean the truss will collapse?

Not necessarily, but it is a sign the truss is overloaded or damaged and should be checked soon. Causes include termite damage, rot from long-term leaks, broken joints or heavy roof tiles. Early strengthening is far cheaper and safer than waiting.
